[English below]

In 2022, a year in which the world once again seemed to be drifting faster – and the last year in which I was director of Rijksmuseum Twenthe – we concentrated on exhibitions and activities concerning the question of what art and science can teach us about the present. Even when it comes to subjects in the near or not so near past. We searched for a radical new relevance for museums. And we published all those exhibitions and ideas in an 80 page magazine titled ‘Now What?’ Wat Nu? [Dutch only, large file, so be patient!]

Now right now!

Museums are about the past.

What was, rather than

what is, so it is believed.

We want a museum

about here and now

and about you and about us.

Wander, but don’t get lost,

in space and time,

past woods, over fields and

through villages and towns,

between plants, animals and machines

follow your own path.

Museums are

about you, us, them,

then and now

Who we are and

what drives us.

Participate!

Amaze and marvel.

Many voices

both then and now.

About what shifts and what doesn’t,

what shapes us and what binds us.

Now, right now!
